Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 13

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 13 This week I learned a lot from Randy Haykin about his life and journey to him owning his own business. This has inspired me to do the same or something like it. The idea of owning your business is neat, but I know it takes hard work to do so. Haykin had experience and some jobs before taking the step to create his own business. He gained lessons from working with Apple as well as IM, and took the lessons learned into his next job. I also touched base with the idea that it is still possible to make time with your family, despite being full time with a job.  In the talk "An attitude of Gratitude", President Monson says: " Earlier, perhaps perceiving the culmination of His earthly mission, He spoke the lament, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” ( Luke 9:58 .) “No room in the inn” was no...

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 12

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 12 Based on what you read in the first two pages (pages 3 and 4), why are virtue and integrity so vital to an economy? According to Charles Handy, what is the “real justification” for the existence of businesses? What are two solutions proposed by Handy that you agree with? Why? Virtue and integrity are so vital to the economy. At the beginning of the article we see that a few bad apples would not destroy the whole orchid. The marketers would pick out the bad and toss them, and eventually the apple orchard would be back to normal. Truth is easily sacrificed in favor of market profits being on target and in need. Where is the integrity in this? There is none, which is why it is important to have it vital to the economy. Otherwise, it will crumble. You cannot have a full basket of bad apples, or a full orchard. Otherwise, there will be no orchard. The  “real just...

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 11

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 11 What is your attitude toward money? How can your view of money affect the way you live? What rules are recommended for prospering? My attitude towards money is that it is very much needed. Money is needed to survive, and while I may not love it, I need to know how to use it. In the way the I live, I know that  with it, I can pay for food, savings, bills, and life style. For me personally, I have a few different rules. I do want to prosper, and in order to do that, I must save. Saving money means to put off doing  and paying for things now in hopes of spending and buying things later down the road.  Another rule the I have recommended for prospering is to budget.  Budgeting means to plan out money and where to spend, and where to save. It is like a map for your direction of money, and plans to make sure output is less than ...

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 10

Intro to Entrepreneurship Week 10 Things that resonated with me this past week was definitely the entrepreneur interview. I enjoyed the opportunity, and it actually gave me some good insight into doing what I want to do, which is selling clothing and apparel. I would love to start my own business, even if it is small. I got to see what hardships my interviewee learned, and what she would do differently. I think that if I apply that to myself, I could potentially see what I could do and everything. Right off the bat, I hope I can make some good decisions, but also live my failures and potential bad decisions.  In the talk "Challenge to become" by Elder Oaks, I learned about a parable which goes like;  "A wealthy father knew that if he were to bestow his wealth upon a child who had not yet developed the needed wisdom and stature, the inheritance would probably be wasted". I think that as we grow up and older, we can take upon ourselves more knowledge, lessons, hardsh...

Intro To Entrepreneurship Week 9

Intro To Entrepreneurship Week 9 This week I learned how leadership start's with the small L. I learned from principle number one that I need to leave by example. What manner of man ought I to be? I know that people that I lead will look up to me and be watching my every move. I need to be more proactive and develop a leadership that will set a tone. The next principle from President Kim B. Clark's talk was to lead with a vision. I must have a vision of what I seek and visualize for my goals, the people that I lead, and myself. The last principle was to lead with love. Love is very important and we learn that having love means having deep feelings for others where you show care and really think about them. If i lead with love, I will love those I lead, and help them.  I gained some good insight for my future interview as well. I want to know what I want to say and be prepared with some good questions. Not only was I able to come up with a group of selected questions, I ...

Intro To Entrepreneurship Week 6

Intro To Entrepreneurship Week 6 This week I learned a great deal about interests in being an entrepreneur. I read that success is gauged by self mastery, which I think is true. entrepreneurship to me is self driven, it is up to the person how far the they want to go. Their motivation is driven by personal desire, success, money, and sometimes family. I think it is important to master yourself in a way. Figure out what is best for you, what drives you to do things. If we self discipline our selves, than we can become hard worker. In the video "The Entrepreneur and the Family", I learned how hard it is to begin a start up with having a family. There is a part in there where the speakers says that if you are single and want to begin a start up, than stay single. He talked about time consuming it is to do so, and that it is better to stay single and devote time. Something else he talked about was when he had a family, he would still devote time to work. It is not for everyone,...

Intro To Entrepreneurship Week 5

Intro To Entrepreneurship Week 5 Some of the key takeaways from A Hero's journey was the meaning. The meaning is to live every moment of your life like it matters. This is true because we basically living through life. Gaining experiences, learning, growing, making mistakes, and having lessons. We have a path that leads us to somewhere, and the journey is what brings us closer to our destination. We will remember our journey, why we have taken it.  Advice is what many of us seek. We seek it from out peers, role model, celebrities, and people that we look up to. Weather or not their advice is sound, it may prove to be validation to the listener. I suggest receiving advice from someone that you know, and not necessarily from a celebrity. That way it can be someone you trust, and be more genuine.  Three questions really piqued people's minds at the end of their life; Have I contributed something meaningful? Am I a good person? And who did I love, and who loved me? These que...
